Bryn very happy to be catching his first coalfish! He along with the rest of his family had lots of pollack and mackerel as well, but the fact he caught more than his dad seemed to be the cherry on the cake (sorry Jones)!

There was too much swell for us to run our trip today unfortunately, so Joe of Catch and Cook Kayak Fishing who was helping out as crew today went of for some ‘staff training’. Lots of mackerel and sand eel about, a few pollack and a nice wrasse for Joe. Despite being on holiday in Australia, Skipper Ian found time to put together some of the photos he took last. We ran our first trip of the season on Tuesday and dropped straight on to the fish. There were lots of small pollack, with a few big enough to keep along with a few nice sized coalfish. A bit cold out but a beautiful day on Thursday, with a few boat records chucked in! Some pollack today but not as obliging as Tuesday, but we had mackerel to 40cm, herring to 30cm (a new boat record) and our first spider crab on feathers! Lots of fun was had on the trip with sightings of seals, porpoise and the lifeboat launching.

I think today was the last time we will get out for a little while!
Out on the banks with 8 species caught, nothing big (apart from the tope!), but the rods didn’t stop, so not many photos unfortunately. Mackerel, scad, whiting, weavers, dogfish, dab, tope and a loan school bass. The tide wasn’t running enough to find the big bass whilst we were out, but it was perfect for mixed drift fishing, a couple nice size mackerel and whiting for the table, with two tope to the boat, two lost on the bass set ups and one bass bate with a massive bite out of it. Hoping to get out again when the weather breaks again.

We made the most of the weather on Wednesday, fish

We made the most of the weather on Wednesday, fishing some of the marks out of Fishguard. There were a few herring and joeys about, with the odd whiting. We could get to the bottom over the reefs as they were thick with pollack and we were bringing up full strings each time! Went out to try for some bass and our only Joey found a 3.5lbs bass. We found a few scad on the banks for baits, but got bitten off by the tope. A weather window has opened up for tomorrow morning and we’re keen to make the most of the last two weeks of the bass season. We are running a 6hr trip at 08:30 tomorrow.
